This detail of Spider’s Journey is of a tattooed spider with the stamen and pistil of an Iris flower.

Ancient cultures of the Americas venerated spiders, seen as powerful creatures.  They incorporated spiders into jewelry and as part of their belief system of the divine relationship between humans and the natural world.  This work has a photographed tattoo of a spider ambling among the pistils and stamens of an Iris flower.  This symbolizes the life and fertility of nature.
